Chevron In Newfoundland

Chevron Canada Limited has many jobs in oil and gas exploration and production offshore Newfoundland and Labrador. They have four oil fields which are Hibernia, Hebron, Orphan-Basin and Terra Nova.

Hibernia was discovered in 1979. Chevron shares this oil field with ExxonMobil Canada Properties, Suncor, the Canadian Hibernia Holding Corporation, Murphy Oil and Statoil. By August 2010, Hibernia produced an estimated 1.395 billion barrels of crude oil potentially recoverable over the field. Hibernia’s platform weighs over one million tonnes and is found 315 km east of St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, in the Jeanne d’Arc Basin.

Hebron was made in 2008 by Chevron Canada and the government of Newfoundland and Labrador. Hebron is an oil field that is estimated to contain 400 to 700 million barrels of oil. It is founded in the Jeanne d’Arc Basin, which is approximately 350 km east of St. John’s. The partners with Chevron that work on Hebron are ExxonMobil Canada Properties, Suncor, Statoil and Nalcor Energy.

The Orphan Basin is a large basin covering approximately 100,000 square kilometers and is located 250 km north of Hibernia offshore Newfoundland and Labrador. Chevron owns 50% of the Orphan Basin. The first time they drilled was concluded in April 2007. Chevron operated the Lona O-55 exploration in 2010 from early May until late August. The main idea for this drilling operation was to make everything safe and incident-free operations during drilling. The well was drilled without any lost time incidents and everything was safe. This safety performance was made possible becauser of a lot of well planning prior to drilling and the on going attention to safety by everyone involved during drilling operations. The Lona O-55 well is located approximately 430 km northeast of St. John’s. The water depth, at 2,600 metres, was a new record for offshore wells drilled in Canada. Chevron used the Stena Carron drillship to drill the 2010 Orphan Basin exploration well. Project partners were ExxonMobil Canada Ltd, Imperial Oil Resources Ventures Limited, and Shell Canada Energy .
