Public relations specialist are experts in communication and persuasion. They persuade certain target groups, such as customers, shareholders,or the public, to adopt a belief, buy a product or service, or act in a certain way.

Core Tasks
A public relations specialist helps company's and individuals maintain good relationships with the public by keeping clients informed of changes in public opinion. They also plan events (like fundraisers), write/edit press releases (newsletters, and other PR materials) and design and manage publicity campaigns.


The work can be stressful. Employers can include businesses (like husky energy- Oil and Gas), politicians, governments departments, ad agencies, and public relations firms (some are self-employed). Public relation specalist usually has to work nine to ten hour day but overtime is sometimes required. They work mainly in offices but sometimes has to travel to meet with clients and the media.

The earnings depend on education, reputation, location and the employer. Most public relation specialists make from $25,000 to $100,000 a year or more. Freelancers may be paid a set fee or a monthly retainer fee.

Education and Training
To become a public relation specialist you need a degree or diploma in public relations or related field, an internship (recommended), and a professional desognation is helpful. Some school's that you can go to to become a Public Relations Specalist are: Kaplan University, University of Phoenix, Walden University and MUN University.
