How long has Weather Forecasting been used?
  • Weather predictions have been used since 650 B.C. when "Babylonians" predicted weather by the cloud patterns created. During this time, people predicted weather based on a series of events.
  • In 1835, there was a large advancement in weather forecasting because of the invention of the electrical telegraph. This is when modern weather forecasting began.

What affect does Weather Forecasting have on the Oil & Gas Industry?
  • Weather has a daily affect on the oil and gas industry. Cold temperatures increase the demand for heating in buildings causing a greater need for oil.
  • In terms of recovering oil, stormy and wet conditions make it really hard to manufacture and provide oil. Especially in terms over-sea oil rigs. It can also be very costly.
