White Rose Oil Field

by Lucas and Kayla

A core asset to Husky, White Rose is an oil field 350 kilometres off the coast of Newfoundland in the Jeanne d'Arc Basin. This field began being used on November 12, 2005. In North America it is the second harshest environment to use a FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading). Discovered in 1984, it is operated by Husky Energy. This particular field consists of both gas and oil pools. Including the South White Rose oil pool covering approximately 40km2 containing an estimated 440 million barrels of oil.

Approximately 50km from both the Terra Nova and Hibernia fields the White Rose field is comprised of 3 or 4 drill centres located on the sea floor. Eventually there are hopes to have up to 10 to 14 production wells. To protect the wells form iceberg scour the drills centers are in excavated glory holes that are below the seabed. To maintain reservoir pressure 8 to 11 water and gas injection wells were drilled. These drilled water and gas injection wells also helps for the conservation of the resources.

FPSO Facility

Storing between 111,000m³ and 135,000m³ which is 700,000 and 850,000 barrels of oil the FPSO (floating production, storage and offloading) facility, the ship-shaped Sea Rose comes complete with accomodations, topside processing units and a turret. The turret would be used in an emergency where the FPSO would have to move. It would disconnect the facility from the subsea drill centres allowing it to move.
